Healing Hypothyroidism: How Much Has Changed in 10 Years?

In 2016 I started helping women overcome hypothyroidism. How much has changed since then? Honestly, not much. The pillars of healing hypothyroidism have remained the same.

Going Deeper

Every client’s journey starts with a dive into food, dissecting cravings, proper exercise, and daily lifestyle habits. We start out on the surface: better quality foods, more movement, and creating better preparation for improved sleep are popular starting blocks. Healing hypothyroidism begins when we explore the energetic areas of life; primary food.

Primary food is a term from the founder of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Joshua Rosenthal. Joshua determined that true nourishment in life comes from spiritual practice, relationships, life work/career, and exercise.

The Power of Primary Food

In last decade of coaching, relationships, career, and spiritual practice remain the top three places where change makes the deepest impact on healing hypothyroidism in women. Those were the areas where I had to do the soul searching and renovation to get to the heart of the matter.

Supplements and dietary changes can be effective, and exercise is medicine in itself. But after a while, the deeper issues reveal themselves. For example, many times I’m working with someone who can maintain meal prep and exercise for a couple weeks, but then stops. Why? There’s a couple things happening. The first thing is that they are not getting support from those who live with them. The second factor is how much their career determines their behaviors and habits. Many times, work is too tiring or too time-consuming that they have nothing left at the end of the day.

Career Change and Communication

Career change is the top factor for healing hypothyroidism in my practice. The very close second is communication issues with a spouse or family member(s). The communication breakdown causes the client to not get what they want in terms of time or support.

Are you trying to make changes to help your thyroid health, but it’s not sticking? Is your career or work situation a factor? Do you feel like you need more support at home, but not sure of how to craft the conversation? Reach out for a free consultation here. Questions? Use the “contact me” form.
