Affordable Wellness Gift Guide

Affordable Wellness Gift Guide

Wellness doesn’t have to be expensive and over the top. Let’s take a look at some of the best bangs for your buck and the health of yourself and loved ones. We tend to overlook the basic tenets of good health; light or heat, hydration, minerals, movement, rest, and of course; pleasure. Let’s dive into some great gifts that are not going to break the bank and help us obtain the benefits of these simple medicines we need for thyroid, hormones, and overall health.

Red Light Therapy Lamp

Winter means less sun for many people, and this creates many challenges for health and overall well-being. In comes red light therapy and the amazing portable lamps that have come along. I love this particular lamp because you can set it up on its stand, hang it, and it has a timer. Red light therapy promotes cellular health, which is the foundation for thyroid and hormone stability, and provides an array of benefits to your tissues, skin, muscles, and more. It also promotes better sleep due to improving serotonin levels. Check it out here.

Hot Water Bottle

With all the eating and being merry over the holidays, there’s nothing like some inexpensive hot water bottle therapy to help alleviate any aches, pains, or belly troubles. Simply place the hot water bottle over your belly and let it relax any spasms or discomfort you’re feeling after heavy meals. This is also great if you’re under the weather, or feeling cold and need some comforting warmth.

Under the Counter Water Filter

Eight years ago, we started filtering our water with this system. We’ve been pleased with the results, and they even make shower and bath filters that are wonderful for your skin and hair. Removing contaminants and harsh byproducts from our drinking and bathing water is a critical step in hormone health and overall well-being. This is the most economical water filter on the market to date, and provides excellent water quality. Read more in their product description when you tap the link above.

Trace Minerals: Drops or Tablets

If you or a family member struggle to eat enough fruits, vegetables, and other foods or drinks that provide healthy mineral levels, you may need to add a few drops of minerals to your glass of water each day. A supplement like this provides insurance that you’re getting a full spectrum of minerals like magnesium, boron, lithium, and other minerals that are not as prevalent in our soils. Mineral deficiency is a major factor in thyroid dysfunction and other hormonal imbalances. It’s also a factor in constipation and fatigue.

If you want something more thyroid specific for an under active thyroid, check out this supplement tablet. I highly recommend it because it’s packed with thyroid-specific trace minerals and some bovine thyroid tissue for added support.

Ancestral Thyroid Support Supplement

If you or a loved one deals with hypothyroidism, and you want a supportive supplement to replace medication, check out Ancestral Beef Thyroid. I have been taking this for a year now. It’s a capsule of powdered bovine thyroid tissue that provides a “ping” to my thyroid gland to help it function optimally. In the animal organ supplement world, “like cures like” is the ancient mantra followed. Our ancestors ate an animal nose to tail to enjoy the benefits of every possible part; not just the meat. In addition to keeping my mineral intake up, this supplement has been a game changer for me. They provide consultations, a quiz, and plenty of support. There’s some great discounts happening now too!

Greens Powder for The Picky Eaters

One of the toughest foods for people to get enough of is greens. This particular superfood complex powder has a full spectrum of nutrients for made from greens of the land and waters. It’s also a thyroid function supplement and excellent for immune health. I love this product and the small, independent company it’s from. Their quality standards are exceptional and I have used this powder off and on for almost 10 years. It’s easy to stir the powder into a glass of orange juice or add to any smoothie.

15 Minute Workouts to Jumpstart the New Year

In 2016 I discovered Dr. Jade Teta and his fantastic Metabolic Prime workout program. His workouts are 15 minutes and provide the jolt in metabolic function and strength that everyone is looking for. He has recently created Metabolic Aftershocks and Metabolic Renewal. You can find used and new copies of his workouts at a discount here ($3 for a DVD!) or visit the exercise section of his website here.

Walking Weights

I highly encourage everyone to walk outside everyday no matter what the weather is. Being in the natural light is so important for our circadian rhythm, mental wellbeing, and of course physical health. Walks clear our heads, hearts, and bodies. Step up your walk with some walking weights like these to tone muscles and increase bone density.

Bath Salts to Wind Down With

One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and others is a restful night’s sleep. An epsom salt bath or magnesium bath is a great way to wind down and give the body the signal that it’s time to sleep. For me, fulfilling all the roles and duties in raising three children, running businesses, and doing all the things each day, a bath with these salts is a great way to transition to bedtime.

Better Lights for Nights

Speaking of sleep…do you have a night owl on your list? You should give them the gift of red light bulbs. This is a broader topic than the red light therapy lamp previously mentioned. In a nutshell, we get too much blue light from our devices and modern LED lighting that surrounds us. It’s especially bad to be flooded with it at night. Our ancestors sat by firelight in the evening before going to sleep and there’s good reason. That part of the light spectrum is more natural for us to engage with at the end of the day (like sunset), and helps our minds and bodies shut down for sleep. Simply replace the regular bulbs in your lamps or fixtures with ones like these.

Chocolate Anyone?

Chocolates are a popular gift during the holiday season, but most of what we’re taking or giving to others isn’t made from real, wholesome ingredients. This is not typically a wellness gift due to the quality of the chocolate. If you’re going to indulge, then do it right and affordably. Here’s one of my favorites.

Mocktails: Stress Relief Without the Hangover

We like to enjoy some good drinks over the holidays, or find ourselves needing something to break all the tension and stress of traveling, preparing, and maybe dealing with some “challenging” family members over the holidays. There are a wide variety of mocktails available that can provide relaxation, comfort, clarity, or rejuvenation from adaptogenic herbs, fruits, and medicinal mushrooms. Curious Elixirs (coupon in link) has been a favorite of mine for years. Their flavors and combinations are fantastic. Every case of mocktails comes with a card that describes the ingredients of each drink and what the purpose is. Check them out!

No Mold or Chemicals in Our Coffee!

If you or your loved ones are more interested in hot drinks, specifically coffee, check out Purity. They have great discounts now and there’s a coupon on the link I provided. No mold or toxins. Certified organic. Amazing flavor!
